Who owned Instagram?

In 2010, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger launched Instagram. The two met while studying at Stanford University and later worked together at Odeo, the company that eventually became Twitter. They began working on Instagram as a side project in 2010 and officially launched the app in October of that year. The app quickly gained popularity, and by 2012, it had amassed over 30 million users.

In 2012, Instagram was purchased by Facebook for $1 billion in cash and stock. Systrom and Krieger continued to serve as CEO and CTO of Instagram after this acquisition was finalized in September 2012. They continued to lead the development of the app until September 2018, when they resigned from their positions and left the company.

After the departure of Systrom and Krieger, Facebook appointed Adam Mosseri as the head of Instagram. Mosseri was previously the Vice President of Product at Facebook, and he continues to lead Instagram as of now. As of now, Facebook continues to own Instagram.
